Art the Clown is the face of fear in horror today. He was created by the gruesome mind of David Howard Thornton and first appeared to audiences in 2011 at a film festival in Los Angeles. His original appearance was actually in the short film Terrifier (2011) which was included in the anthology film All Hallows’ Eve (2013). Since then he has been featured as a character on multiple occasions such as Dead End (2013), Ghoul Town (2014) and more recently Terrifier 2 (2021).

The Face of Fear

You probably know Art the Clown from his role in Terrifier, but did you know that he has also appeared in films such as Dead End and Ghoul Town? What's more, he's a popular character at horror conventions around the world!

Art the Clown is a popular character in the horror genre. He first appeared in Damien Leone’s Terrifier, where he was created by the gruesome mind of David Howard Thornton. The character is best known to horror fans as the main antagonist of that film; however, Art has also been featured in other films such as Dead End and Ghoul Town.

Art’s appearance is similar to that of many clowns but with a few key differences. His makeup consists primarily of white face paint with black lipstick and an unnatural-looking red mouth. In addition, his costume has several noticeable items—a long bow tie, a blue hat with red pompom bobbles (the earrings), pointy shoes and gloves—and two metal blades on either side of his mouth (the fangs).

You may think you know Art the Clown, but you don’t. The character first appeared in 2011’s Terrifier as the main antagonist, but has since proven to be so popular that he went on to star in two more films: All Hallows’ Eve (2013) and Art of the Devil 3D (2015). The character is a gross parody of clowns as well as serial killers, and his name “Art” is a reference to Edward Theodore Gein, who was a murderer, cannibal, and body snatcher.

In the show's first episode (entitled "The Art Show"), Art attacks two girls at an art museum when they are taking pictures in front of an exhibit he finds offensive. He kills one girl by cutting off her head with a Bowie knife while shouting "The art show!" The other girl runs away from him but falls down some stairs into an air shaft where she dies after being crushed by some metal scraps.

The character has appeared in several films, including 2014's Art of the Devil 3D and 2016's Art: The Final Nightmare. Art also has a backstory and personality—he is an artist who was once married to a woman named Bella but lost her after she was brutally attacked by an evil spirit called Vlad.

He has been featured in other films such as Dead End (2013), Ghoul Town (2014) and more recently Terrifier 2 (2021).

Art the Clown has made guest appearances on numerous podcasts including The Last Podcast on the Left and Dissecting Worlds. He was interviewed for an article about his life as a professional clown by Fangoria magazine in 2017 and has also been featured in Rue Morgue, Starburst and other magazines dedicated to all things horror.

Art the Clown is one of horror's most infamous boogeymen with an interesting personality and backstory

Art the Clown isn't just a horror movie villain. He's also one of horror's most infamous boogeymen with an interesting personality and backstory, who has appeared in other films and even had his own panel at a recent modern horror convention.

He's best known for his appearance in the 1988 film [REC], which was remade by Hollywood in 2007. In this film, Art is portrayed as a wisecracking clown that stalks victims through their apartment building while wearing white face paint, red lipstick, and a black top hat.

The original version ends with Art getting trapped in an elevator as fire engulfs the building; however, if you watch it long enough he eventually appears again running through the streets of Barcelona wearing different clothes (because all clowns change clothes when they go out).

I think it’s safe to say that Art the Clown is one of the scariest horror villains ever created. His appearance, demeanor and backstory are very unsettling. The character has endured through time thanks to his strange personality as well as his terrifying face which has haunted audiences since 2011. As for what makes him so frightening, I would say it’s because he isn’t a human being but rather an embodiment of evil itself; he represents our worst nightmares coming true in real life with no explanation or logic behind them other than they simply exist just like any other entity might exist within its own universe.
